India Tourism - Indian Holiday, Travel

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, WRO, the Travel and Tourism Industry in India contributed INR1,165.4 bn or US$24.2 bn directly, amounting to 2.2% to GDP, in 2009. This is expected to rise to INR3,345.3 bn or US$61.0 bn by 2019. Including indirect contributions, the revenues should grow from INR3,239.4 bn or US$67.3 bn to INR10,274.1 bn or US$187.3, amounting to 6% of the GDP, during the same 2009-2019 period.

The Travel & Tourism economy is expected to grow by 7.7% per annum during 2010 to 2019. The tourism industry employed 31.1 million people in 2009, amounting to 6.4% of total employment. That is One in every 15 jobs. By 2019, this number will be 1 in every 14 jobs or a total of 40 million jobs, amounting to 7.2% of total employment.

Tourism Industry employed  INR1,484.6 bn, US$30.9 bn in 2009, amounting to 7.3% of total investment. By 2019, this number will be INR5,183.4 bn, US$94.5 bn or 7.1% of all investments.

Government of India spent 1% of its total spend on tourism, for the year 2009; amounting to INR62.4 bn (US$1.3 bn). Government spend will increase to  US$709.3 bn, or 4.0% of total government spend.
